Embracing the Big Freeze, the Diamond Creek Junior Football Club community has come together to raise over $7,000 for Fight MND, a charity that funds research into treatments and cures for Motor Neurone Disease.

Over a cold Friday night, the warm hearts of the Diamond Creek community led to amazing generosity, with many members of the club dressing up to be auctioned off to be dunked in the Big Freeze tank.

Thanks to the generosity of small business Pure Piping who supported the event and a tasty sausage sizzle run and staffed by Coles Diamond Creek, DCJFC was able to focus on raising as much money as possible to fight MND. It was wonderful to have guest speaker Terry Daniher speak warmly about his brother Neale and his fight against MND, which has robbed him of his ability to speak, lift his hands, or swallow.

Motor Neurone Disease is a devastating disease that wreaks havoc on not only the lives of the hundreds of Victorians that have been diagnosed, but also the lives of their families and loved ones.

There is important research going on right now to help alleviate the symptoms of MND, improve the lifespan of those suffering from the disorder, and to ultimately find a cure - funds raised like the $7,000 by DCJFC are a vital part of this research.

Quotes attributable to Vicki Ward MP, Member for Eltham

“I have witnessed first-hand the devastating consequences of the beast that is MND. My mother in-law fought against this debilitating and deadly condition for twenty years, losing her battle in 2020.

Our experience is similar to so many families who have supported loved ones with MND.  The important research being done now is vital to making sure that families in the future do not have to suffer in this way”.

“I am very thankful for the work of Diamond Creek Junior Football Club, their members and everyone who donated to this very worthy cause. I love living and representing such a caring community.”
