In celebration of the remarkable work performed by our SES, a BBQ gathering was held on May 15, bringing together SES departments from across the region – Nillumbik, Manningham, and Heidelberg SES Units. State and Federal MPs, Vicki Ward MP, Kate Thwaites MP and Sonja Terpstra MP attended, providing the BBQ as a thank you to for the Units’ hard work.

Throughout the night, volunteers from the three SES units competed in an ‘SES Olympics’ of rescue-skills challenges based on agility, strength, and teamwork: with events including a stretcher-handling obstacle course, a radio and map navigation search exercise, a sandbag and pumping stand, and a teamwork challenge. These challenges demonstrated the impressive abilities of our SES members and their dedication to their roles.

The event created an opportunity to recognize and honour the selfless efforts of these exceptional volunteers during National Volunteer Week. It served as a reminder of the invaluable services they provide, from rescuing those in distress to mitigating the impact of natural disasters.
